Matchæologist ®

Matchæologist® (抹茶オロジスト) is an artisanal producer of Japanese matcha and matcha-ware, based in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture—long regarded as the home of Japan's finest matcha. Our collection brings together artisanal Japanese matcha and contemporary matcha-ware, combining traditional craftsmanship with a refined, contemporary approach.

Recognised for its deep emerald green colour, distinctive oika (覆い香) aroma and balanced umami (うま味), our matcha is produced using traditional cultivation and meticulous production methods that honour the character of each harvest. Every grade is carefully blended to achieve its own balance of aroma, sweetness, texture and depth, allowing the natural qualities of the tea to be expressed with clarity, refinement and purpose.

Alongside our products, we offer education, onboarding, consultation and masterclasses, supporting our partners in incorporating Japanese matcha into their menus, beverages and culinary creations.

Our Matcha

CEREMONIAL MATCHA:

Our ceremonial matcha is produced from the youngest shade-grown leaves of the first harvest, selected for their exceptional balance, depth and clarity of flavour. Carefully blended to express the unique character of each grade, it is intended to be enjoyed on its own, prepared traditionally with water, allowing its natural sweetness, aroma and umami to be fully appreciated. The higher the grade, the greater the sweetness, the lower the bitterness, and the richer the umami, allowing each matcha to reveal its own distinctive expression.

Our culinary matcha is crafted for specialty cafés, restaurants, pâtissiers, chocolatiers and food artisans seeking exceptional flavour and colour. It delivers a vibrant green colour, fresh aroma and full-bodied flavour that shine through complementary ingredients, bringing depth, vibrancy and a distinctive matcha character to beverages, desserts and culinary creations.
